And he very subtly added that the Frey’s were late to the battle by having one of the characters mention it. Very funny.

The way GRRM interwoved this story through his characters throughout the GOT series was so masterfully done. It was really cool to read about both Jaimes and Neds perspective to what happened at the Red Keep.

Great video! One major problem though: Robert didn’t just take the crown because he wanted it, *he had a claim* to it. His father’s mother was Rhaelle Targaryen, one of Aegon the Unlikely’s daughters. With the rest of the royal family dead or in exile, the line of succession (it could reasonably be argued anyways) passed to him.

I’m not saying power and willingness aren’t factors, but it’s important to remember feudal hereditary crowns generally go to cousins and distant relatives, not just whatever random is around.

    Edit: *aren’t

Baz Battles is amazing if you are even remotely interested in historical battles. To my knowledge this is the first strictly fictional one they have done. Masterful as always.

Awesome video but what does different types of rectangles under battle commanders mean? Some has X and some has just one diagonal line. Some X’s are bold and some are not.

It is an absolute shame that there is no legit RTS game based on this whole series!

One important thing the vid shows is that Tywin was hand to the mad king. That’s not clearly stated in the show. One thing that it left out was the intrigue of the Martells offer to pair Elia with Jaime and Oberyn with Cersei which Tywin snubbed (then offering Tyrion to Elia, which pissed off the Dornish) and then the snubbing of the mad king refusing Tywin’s offer of Cersei to Rheagar, and then after the revenge marriage of Rhaegar to Elia. There’s just this triangle of hatred that makes for a great back story.

The narrator does a great job of impersonating Peter Dinklage’s impersonation of an English accent.

I think this is the best choice of story for the planned Game of Thrones spin off. Plenty of familiar characters, place names and such for the audience. The trick is casting good young actors for the roles such as Tywin Lannister or Ned Stark or Littlefinger.

So, this is probably a stupid question, but when did Ned marry Cat? Presumably it would be after his brother died, yes? But the qay this makes it look, Ned immediately went South upon hearing of his brother and father’s deaths, and from there to the Tower of Joy. Did he marry Cat on the march, or is Jon Snow the oldest “son” of Ned Stark?

Robert never really wanted the throne, but he was kind of pushed into claiming it. He fought for Lyanna and justice for Ned’s family. He won it by right of conquest and no one else wanted to take it. Tywin, Ned, Jon, and Jaime did not want the throne so Robert was the one who ended up having to claim it. The fact that Robert has royal Targaryen blood in him just cemented his claim.

I know prequels don’t have the best track record, but Robert’s Rebellion is such a fantastic story that I hope gets to be properly told in a form it deserves. There’s so much meat to it, with so many potentially amazing characters and events.
