Hayden Panettiere’s Juliette Barnes just can’t catch a break.
Although Juliette cleared her conscious at the end of last season by admitting she stole Maddie Jaymes’ song, in the trailer for Nashville‘s sixth and final season, the country star is struggling with depression following the fan backlash over the revelation.
And in the midst of her struggle, she meets Darius, the charismatic founder of a self-actualization movement who offers to help guide Juliette out of her darkness. But while Darius promises he wants to help Juliette change her life, the trailer suggests those changes might not all be positive, as she tells a crowd gathered to watch her perform, “I don’t think I feel like singing. I just need to stop.”
The trailer also hints at a possible relationship between Deacon Claybourne and Jessie Caine and between Maddie and a new Justin Bieber-esque pop star named Jonah Ford.
Meanwhile, on-again-off-again couple Gunnar Scott and Scarlett O’Connor try and figure out how to perform without each other following yet another breakup.

CMT announced that the upcoming sixth season of Nashville will be the show’s last. The country music series premiered on ABC back in 2012, and after four seasons of twists and turns, it was canceled by the network. That’s when CMT came in and saved the show for its final two seasons.
“All of us on Nashville are so incredibly grateful to the show’s fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters,” executive producer Marshall Herskovitz said in a press release. “And we want to return the favor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns — and amazing music! — that made Nashville such an exciting journey for the last six years.”
Nashville season 6 premieres Jan. 4 at 9 p.m. ET on CMT.
