How does an octopus even get suction on something that is covered with feathers?

Oh, it looks like he has it by the beak, and probably the feet. This is insane, I guess I’ve seen everything now.

It blows me away how intelligent Octopuses are. It makes me wonder if they are along the same line as Dolphins where their intelligence is grounds for protection agains fishing. Regardless, they are BAMFs and seriously metal

Genuine question but why would the octopus do this? I’m (possibly wrongly) assuming that it isn’t going to eat the seagull – so what would the motivation be for this?

Once it tastes that seagull it’ll never eat another one. Nasty things. Not even raptors will eat them.

I’m actually curious as to specifically why the seagull can’t fly away. I know their feathers are water repellent, and they’re very strong fliers, is it something about how the octopus is holding it, or something else?
