Prince George starts school today — and he’ll be well prepared for the new adventure if he takes advice from dad Prince William and uncle Prince Harry.
The royal brothers had their own high-profile first day in 1989, when they stood side-by-side and smiled for the cameras on the steps of Wetherby pre-prep day school in London. The school — which is still around today — is a boys-only institution that’s just a quick walk away from their home at Kensington Palace.
Like George, William and Harry wore school uniforms on their first day 28 years ago — theirs complete with a red-piped gray blazer, navy shorts and a matching gray hat.
Of course, at that point, William was practically a pro at the first-day-of-school routine. He had his very first day in 1987, when he was escorted by his mom, Princess Diana, to greet his teachers at the door.
After class, he was pictured leaving school, with a class project in hand.
But Prince Charles may just win the throwback game. In honor of George’s first day, Clarence House tweeted out a side-by-side photo of the prince and his Grandpa Charles on his own first day back in 1958.
Little Charles had a much more formal uniform than George does — complete with knee socks, a tie, a hat and a blazer.
Though George won’t have a sibling by his side on his first day — 2-year-old Princess Charlotte isn’t quite ready for school just yet — he will have his dad there to walk him into class at Thomas’s Battersea. Mom, on the other hand, couldn’t make it: Princess Kate, who announced she’s expecting her third child this week, is currently ill with acute morning sickness at home and was forced to miss dropping George off for his first day.
