Just add a dash of live virus by having a sick person cough into this, and you have a DIY vaccine!

    And the flu!

It breaks my heart that someone could really not understand science enough to believe these homemade flu shots are effective; as though it’s direct evidence that our schooling in science is severely lacking. I mean, yes they may boost the immune system, but no resistance is provided without at least dead virus, right?

The flu shot works by putting an inactive flu virus in your body, prompting your immune system to produce antibodies which fight off the real thing.

A motherfucking kale smoothie will not do this.

I’ve had the flu, the real flu, influenza-A. I had a fever so high that I was delirious and it felt like someone had broken every bone in my body with a crowbar. Get your fucking flu shot

So this person literally does not know what a vaccine is. She thinks it’s some kind of chemical smoothie that does something like “supports the immune system” or some other legally-not-a-medical-claim thing marketers put on food labels. So I guess we have to start with baby steps: first, educate the public on what a fucking vaccine is.

My FIL and SIL are against flu shots because they believe it’s a conspiracy to intentionally cull the population of the world. Then one Christmas my FIL comes down with the flu and invites us over without telling us he’s afflicted, with us only finding out when my SIL gets on the phone and admits he has it and their whole family is exposed. THEN they have the audacity to get pissed when we decline the invite and avoid them the whole time of vacation, because no fucking way am I going to expose my 6 month old baby (who’s too young for such a shot and shouldn’t be deliberately exposed anyway) to their sick selfish asses.

Is it bad I don’t get flu shots? Either way I never get sick and only had it once as a kid. I know some people that get sick all the time but for me it’s around once a year so I never really saw the point when if I get sick it’s something else anyway.

    My little rant.

I agree with vaccines, except for the flu shot. I’ve only ever gotten the flu twice in my life (admittedly, that may be due to herd mentality and all that).

They guess at which strand of flu there will be, and then inject chemicals and stuff into your body for something that is generally non-fatal. I’ve also seen some examples of bad reactions to the shot. Furthermore, there is the theory of ‘super-bugs’ and, like all medicine or science, it’s always self-correcting. Flu shot is healthy; smoking used to be healthy. Considering that they’re guessing and it’s generally non-fatal, I don’t see the point.

In my opinion, I’d much rather just keep healthy and let my immune system do it’s thing.

What I hate is how people, who may even have logical reasons to abstain from one shot or two get attacked.

I’m not condoning the people who are crazy about this (ex., they’re trying to brainwash us! Wake up sheeple!). And I understand herd-mentality. I’m just saying, apart from the definitely-deadly diseases, I think people should be able to choose the more mild, less serious diseases to be vaccinated against. It most likely won’t kill others, and it’s your own body. People should be able to choose what’s best for them, as long as it does not seriously hurt others. In the case of the flu, influenza isn’t deadly to the general population. Also, flu can be fought by simply staying healthy.

I know I will get hate for this, but this is my little rant. I am definitely not an anti-vaxxer, but I’m tired of people attacking anyone who maybe thinks that one vaccine may not be for them with reason.

Is it just me, or is that bottom link fake? I realize that places shorten the URL, but it’s still clickable. This looks like he/she copied the shortened URL from Google–including the ellipsis–and pasted it in here. If you look closely, “http://www.cdc.gov” is blue, but everything else is black. Meaning that part is showing as a link by the website, but since the idiot copied the ellipsis, the link stops there and everything else is black.

He couldn’t even properly copy paste the cdc link at the bottom. Only the first part is actually blue.

It’s probably supposed to be this: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-2.pdf but yeah I can see how it’s super hard to paste that link. Noooot.

Also how is reading the inserts “research”? The research I know typically at the _very least_ includes procuring information from different sources to put together in a new combination. Not just reading properly supplied informational leaflets.
