Anyone with critical thinking skills can figure out that you should not rely on government to help you in a crisis.

This situation doesn’t surprise me. Maybe local police don’t have enough MREs for everyone. Maybe if they started giving them out people would flock and supplies would be gone in a couple days, then rioting would ensue. Maybe these police are corrupt bastards. We don’t have enough information to know for sure. We do know that people are going hungry and things may get worse before they get better.

As a conspiracy enthusiast the story of “accidentally” cutting the fiber optic cable seems fishy to me. Undersea cables are made tough as fuck. They even account for sharks using these cables as chew toys. https://imgur.com/a/2gdex I’m more inclined to believe that information was cut to create a blackout zone, perhaps to control the social media surge that would follow the devastation.

It’s common knowledge that the virgin islands governer signed an executive order to have all firearms seized last week. I think they are trying to minimize their civilian’s ability to communicate and mobilize. Which the local government would see as a huge threat, especially if people are thirsty and desperate.

Hopefully someone on that island is a HAM and can get the info out.

I used to live there. It’s a rough place, very mountainous with very little infrastructure.

Most if not all food is shipped in, and it’s over populated, split between very wealthy and very poor.

Corruption in public government is rampant as well

Ya know, I hate to sound like a cynic, but I’m gonna go with big ol’ air-quotes here:

The comments in the original post also have some skepticism to them. Also mention that there are US Military resources on site rendering aid and that 6,000 people have been airlifted. If a fibre optic cable has been cut how are they getting any information out? You can read the disccussion here at the orignal thread: https://np.reddit.com/r/TropicalWeather/comments/6zcr3y/this_is_a_message_from_st_john_us_virgin_islands/

With that said, definitely being prepared for the worst case scenario such as a hurricane is the whole point and being able to communicate (ham radio) is a good one to start if you want to get your information out.

I’d be skeptical about believing everything you hear in regards to it. Public servants refusing to share essential supplied during a disaster is a quick way to get prison time. When things largely recover there, which they will eventually they will be held accountable.

But you should always prep anyway because charities shouldn’t be a crutch.
