Ok. Her parents were an aunt and uncle who had adopted her. She was mad because they forbade her from seeing her boyfriend of two weeks and took her phone. Dad chased the attackers out of the house but died of his wounds, mom recovered. The police found a note in which the scene of the attack was labeled “my house.” She was very much convicted.

A few years later, she appealed the very long sentence and told the press

    >Since being sent to the prison in Ypsilanti, Tia Skinner said she has not heard from her mother, siblings or anyone else from the close-knit Yale community.

    >”It’s been rough, it’s hard losing your whole family in a blink of an eye,” she told The Times Herald. “It’s tough because that’s my family; they’re supposed to stay by you through thick and thin.”

    > Despite initially wanting them dead, Tia Skinner said her thoughts about the lives of her parents changed after the attack.

    >“I hoped that both of them pulled through. That was the biggest thing, that I hoped both of them would pull,” she told The Times Herald.

    Just wow.

Reminds me of the classic definition of “chutzpah”: a person who kills his parents and pleads for the court’s mercy on the grounds of being an orphan

Ok, to be clear SHE, asked for nothing. This is the work of her lawyer. The lawyer has to try anything and everything to defend her. It’s a weak argument, but it’s something.

I’m not sure having one of them murdered falls in this category. She doesn’t sound genuine at all, she sounds sad she’s in prison.

“I believe that everybody deserves a second chance in life,” she told The Times Herald.

You had your second chance when you got adopted bitch. You decided your cell phone was more important than your whole family.

    F@#k her

She’s been remanded to the court on 3 or so separate instances for resentencing and been given life without parole each time. The US Supreme Court says that life without parole is unconstitutional for anyone under 18, even though she was just a month shy of 18 at the time of the murder. They just argued in the State Supreme Court in October, but best I can tell there’s been no decision.

There’s an old joke that the definition of “chutzpah” is killing your parents, and then asking for mercy on the grounds you’re an orphan.

It was a JOKE, Tia, a *JOKE*!!!

Family took her in. She tries to kill them. There should be a harvesting room at the prison so that her organs can give something of value back to the community. Edit this POS (and the other two) from the human race and give a little back.

OMG this happened in my hometown. All 3 are now serving life sentences. It was the most unbelievable thing when this happened. I was in track with her, so strange to think I talked to a future murderer. She was so normal, and was actually adopted by her aunt and uncle who were both teachers at the small local school. So strange to run into this story at random on reddit.

Literally!?!? I hope she fucking does in jail.

Not that she reddits but here is my special message to the girl.

Life without parole shouldn’t exist. If there is zero chance of them being rehabilitated there is no reason to keep them alive.

Honestly, it’s most likely the lawyers who put her up to this defense. This is another example of the infuriating “cant live with ’em, can’t live without ’em” nature of lawyers in our legal system.

Hey! This is an absolutely horrible tragety that happened a few years ago, but it is interesting to see somethig so close to me posted on the website I visit everyday.

This is my hometown. I went to highschool with Tia and my husband was friends with her boyfriend (we didn’t know James). They were in boy scouts together.

We were at a small party store outside of town that is popular (as much as a store in the middle of farmland can be) and after he was arrested James’s father visited the store. He said that James came home placed the knife in some towels in the basement, then came in his father’s bedroom and hugged his parents, telling them he loved him. A fee hours later the police were at his door.

When the story came out it was super easy to see the three as monsters (first John and James then later Tia), and they certainly are monsters, but that story from his dad always stuck with me.

Gotta love people to stupid to get out of their own way, and I hope they keep her in prison long enough that there’s no chance she can pass on her “bad temper” to another generation.
