Cardi B was one of the biggest stars to hit the Grammys 2019 red carpet on February 10. The rapper, who was nominated for a whopping seven nominations, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Rap Album, delivered a serious look that did not disappoint fans of her style.
The Bodak Yellow rapper wore an archival look (Look 130, to be specific) from Mugler’s autumn/winter 1995 couture show, originally shown at the Cirque d’Hiver, an iconic venue in Paris, as part of the label’s then-20th anniversary party. It was all typically over-the-top and filled with exquisite showmanship; Mugler’s signature sculptural suits mixed in with theatrical coats and hats and gloves.
Cardi’s look? It was a blush satin sheath skirt, which started at the floor and fanned out at the waist, forming a sort of petal shape, as though Cardi was blossoming from it. And in a way, the statement piece served as a metaphor; the artist’s star is in full bloom right now. She wore it just how it appeared on the runway, too: with a sequin bodysuit that had a nude overlay, acting almost like a second skin, and long pink satin gloves. Around her neck and waist and twisted around her bouffant bun were strands of pearls that accentuated the ensemble’s throwback vibe. A fashion throwback to win all throwbacks.
The spectacle didn’t end there. Cardi shocked fans further by walking the carpet with Offset, proving that the couple, who recently took a break, are fully back on. The Migos member wore a black coat in crushed velvet and black trousers, with a white ruffled top underneath. Layers and layers of shining necklaces rounded out this look. Combined with Cardi, it made for an unbeatable couple moment.
